The CBA season had started over the week end.

And on Sunday night, Shandong High Speed Golden Stars played their first home game against Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons.

Both teams had recruited quite big-name ex-NBA players for this season: Brandon Jennings and Luis Scola for Shanxi, and Ty Lawson and Donatas Motiejūnas for Shandong.

But the STAR of this game had to be DING YAN YUHANG !!!

Ding Yan Yuhang had a pretty quiet game at the start, scoring just 10 points in 1Q, and added another 12 points for 2Q and 3Q, as in 2Q, Shandong at one point lead by 15 points, and seemed cruising to an easy victory.

But Brandon Jennings & Co. had a suden explosion in latter part of 2Q and 3Q, firing 3-pointers from all cylinders (a total of 19 3-pointers for the team), and after a 8 ~ 0 run in 4Q, they had a 30-point swing to lead by 15 points by 9 minutes in 4Q.

That was when Ding Yan Yuhang stepped up to shoulder his team and take over the game.

He started to score with various methods: fast break dunks, layups, jumpers and 3-pointers to erase the arrears, and with his 6th 3-pointer of the game (he scored 4 in 4Q), he managed to bring his team back to lead 110 ~ 107.

But Shanxi eventually tied the game at 114 ~ 114 with 27 seconds left.

In Shandong's next offensive poession, Ty Lawson dribbled to dry out the shot clock, and then passed the rock to Ding Yan Yuhang, who gestured to his team mates to let him do his 1-on-1.

He dribbled a bit and then scored a jumper leaving Shanxi with less than 3 seconds.

And in Shanxi's last offensive possession, ex Shandong 3-pointer specialist Li Jingyu was given the last-kill assignment, but Ding Yan Yuhang came out from nowhere to block his shot attempt to earn the win for Shandong.

Ding Yan Yuhang eventually finished the game scoring 42 points (i.e. contributing 20 points just in 4Q alone) with an exceptionally high FG% (18/27 FG% 6/12 3-pointer%), 6 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block shot in 37 minutes of action.

Ty Lawson finished with 17 points (7/17 FG% 2/7 3-pointer% 1/2 FT%), 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals, while Donatas Motiejūnas scored a double-double of 26 points (11/19 FG% 2/3 3-pointers% 2/7 FT%)/13 rebounds.

For Shanxi Brandon Jennings scored 32 points (9/23 FG% 8/15 3-pointer% 6/7 FT%)/5 rebounds/7 assists, while Luis Scola also scored a double-double of 19 points (8/13 FG% 1/4 3-pointer% 2/2 FT%)/14 rebounds/2 assists.

Another local player worth mentioning was Xing Zhiqiang of Shanxi. The guy must have worked hard on his 3-pointers in the summer. He scored tons of 3-pointers and scored 26 points(9/13 FG% 6/10 3-pointer% 2/3 FT%)/6 rebounds/1 assist.

Hahaha.... I have an excuse to misspell "Jinhui". You're chinese, you don't have any excuses.

Looks like real Ding Yan Yuhang is ready for the NBA.

Is this the earliest CBA season has started? I remember the season would start in late November, not late October.

Q: Is the Beijing BeiKong a new expansion team? or is CBA similar to the relegation system like European soccer? Ironically, Stephon Marbury is now on this team instead of the Ducks.

Q: Jiangsu and Zhejiang now has two teams in their province and in the same city?

Q: Looks to me like the biggest signings were Luis Scola and Donatas Motiejunas? All former Houston Rockets players.

Answers:
  • There is NO relegation systems for CBA. Beijing Beikong entered CBA as an expansion team back in 2014/15 season, when the league expanded from 18 to 20. They were formerly in Chongqing, Sichuan, but got acquired by Beikong and relocated to Beijing.

  • Yes there are 2 for Jiangsu and 2 for Zhejiang, but they're in different cities. Jiangsu Kentier Dragons is in Suzhou while Nanjing Tongxi Monkey Kings is in Nanjing. Zhejiang Chouzhou Golden Bulls is in Yiwu of Jinhua while Zhejiang Guangsha Lions is in Hangzhou.

  • Well, personally think the biggest signing was Brandon Jennings for Shanxi. Talking about former Houston Rockets in CBA, other than Luis Scola and Donatas Motiejunas, there are many others: Carl Landry and Von Waver playing for Jilin, Terrence Jones for Qingdao, Shawn Long for Xinjiang, Ty Lawson for Shandong,

YEAH and Beijing Capital Steel Ducks new management must be now VERY P!$$ED about their decision to dump Stephon Marbury in the off-season.

Stephon Marbury PROVED that at the age of 40, he can STILL play.

He orchestrated the offense of Beikong Fly Dragons THAT WELL,
that both Shavlik Randolph, the Jordanian Zaid Abbas and even the scrub centre Wang Zheng played like possessed against Ding Yan Yuhang's Shandong High Speed Golden Stars on Tuesday night in Beijing.

The game ended with Beikong Fly Dragons winning 114 ~ 102. The scoreline was A LITTLE BIT FLATTERING to Shandong as the gme was SO LOOPSIDED that even the RED HOT Ding Yan Yuhang could do NOTHING to help rescuing his team this time.

Beikong jumped out to lead 33 ~ 17 in 1Q, 66 ~ 47 by half time, and went into 4Q leading by close to 30 points 94 ~ 67.

The Shandong team's interior players led by Donatas Motiejūnas were
SO SOFT that they got out-rebounded and torn up by Shavlik Randolph, Zaid Abbas and Wang Zheng all scoring in double-digits; Shavlik Randolph scoring an AWESOME double-double of 39 points/16 rebounds/5 assists, Zaid Abbas scored 21 points/9 rebounds/5 assists, and even Wang Zheng contributed 15 points/8 rebounds.

Stephon Marbury
got his double-double early in 3Q, and as the game was virtually out of reach of Shandong, he was resting on the bench for most of 4Q.
He finished with 14 points/7 rebounds/11 assists.

The Shandong team was DISPPOINTING....and POOR Ding Yan Yuhang had to carry his team EVERY TIME but this time NO LUCK as the hole was TOO BIG to climb out of.

Ding Yan Yuhang was double-teamed all the time in this game, and he missed quite alot of shots, most of them contested jumpers/3-pointers in 1H. He only managed to score 14 points at the end of 3Q.

But then in 4Q, as Stephon Marbury did not play, and the Shandong team started to find their rhythm and make their shots,
Ding Yan Yuhang scored 13 points in the quarter alone, but ALREADY TOO LATE TOO LITTLE. Ding Yan Yuhang finished with 27 points (9/20 FG% 4/9 3-ponter% 5/7 FT%)/1 rebound/3 assists/3 steals in this game he surely wants to forget.
