So the Asian Qualifiers for 2019 FIBA World Cup will commence in 2 days time.

This will be a LENGTHY qualification torunament with 16 teams divided into 4 Groups to compete for 7 final slots for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.

There will be a Round 1 Phase where teams in each group will have to play home and away with each and other to decide the Top 3 teams of each group to advance into Round 2.

The Round 1 phase will have 3 windows (November 23 ~ 26, February 23 ~ 26, 2018, and June 28 ~ July 1, 2018) for the teams in each group to play 2 home and away games.

Then Round 2 also has 3 windows with games to be played in September 2018, November 2018 and February 2019. The top three teams from each group from Round 1 will be placed into 2 groups with all results from Round 1 carried over to the second round.

The top three teams in each group along with the better placed fourth team will qualify for the FIBA Basketball World Cup proper.

Even though China qualifies automatically as host for the 2019 FIBA World Cup, they still send their national team (the Red Team) to participate in this qualifier.

The grouping is as follows:

Group A
  • China
  • New Zealand
  • South Korea
  • Chinese Hong Kong
Group B
  • Japan
  • Chinese Taipei
  • Australia
  • Philippines
Group C
  • Syria
  • Lebanon
  • India
  • Jordan
Group D
  • Iraq
  • Qatar
  • Kazakhstan
  • Iran

The China National (Red) Team had picked 16 players for the first window of this qualifier, playing Chinese Hong Kong on November 23 in Nanjing, and South Korea on November 26 in Goyang, one of Seoul's satellite cities.

The 16 players are as follows:
  • Ding Yan Yu Hang (Shandong)
  • Wang Zhelin (Fujian)
  • Zhao Jiwei (Liaoning)
  • Liu Zhixuan (Liaoning)
  • Zhao Rui (Guangdong)
  • Zhai Xiaochuan (Beijing)
  • Fang Shuo (Beijing)
  • Meng Duo (Shenzhen)
  • Shen Zijie (Shenzhen)
  • Dong Hanlin (Shanghai)
  • Abdusaram Abdurehit (Xinjiang)
  • Xiralijan Muhtar (Xinjiang)
  • Wang Zirui (Xinjiang)
  • Yu Changdong (Xinjiang)
  • Sun Minghui (Guangsha)
  • Shi Yi (Tianjin).
TRAGIC for the team though was even before the Final 12 roster was finalized, 4 players, all key starter players for the Red Team (Zhao Jiwei, Zhao Rui, Zhai Xiaochuan and Meng Duo) had been declared UNFIT TO PLAY due to INJURIES, and had withdrawn from final selection.

So the resultant Red Team was SIGNIFICANTLY WEAKENED, and ALL EYES NOW ON HOW this team will fare against he South Koreans on their away game on November 26, assuming they should have no problems in playing against the weakest team of the group Chinese Hong Kong on November 23 on home soil !!!

It will be the Red Team.

Some of China's best players Yi Jianlian, Guo Ailun, Hu Jinqiu, Li Gen, Zhou Peng are on Blue Team.

Zhou Qi is on the Red Team but was
given special exemption by Yao Ming due to he's playing for Houston Rockets in NBA.

Is Yao Ming dumb or what? Why isn't he sending the best Chinese players? Just sending the depleted red team is stupid.

THE ONE THAT'S IS DUMB AND IDIOOOOOOOOOTIC IS YOU !!!

There is NOTHING IN STAKE for these qualifiers, as China had AUTOMATICALLY qualified for the 2019 FIBA World Cup !!!!
The purose for dividing the national team into Red and Blue Team is to give MORE CHANCES for young players to gain EXPOSURE AND EXPERIENCE in Asian/International level tournaments.

Besides UNLIKE ALL THOSE BUREAUCRATIC OFFICIALS preceding him, AT LEAST Yao Ming did not demand/summon Zhou Qi back from NBA to play for the national team just for the sake of getting good results.

1H of China vs Chinese Hong Kong had ended. China leading by over 30 points, 53 ~ 22.

The starting 5 for China were: Fang Shuo, Sun Minghui, Ding Yan Yuhang, Abdusaram Abdurehit and Wang Zhelin.

Ding Yan Yuhang started well for the national team, scoring 2 consecutive 3-pointers to start the massacre.

But the player who stood out in 1Q was Sun Minghui who scored 11 points in the quarter with his coast-to-coast dunk and 3-pointers.

China led 33 ~ 12 by end of 1Q, with Sun Minghui (11 points) and Ding Yan Yuhang (9 points) setting the tone for the game.

The rest of the scorers for the national team were: Abdusaram Abdurehit: 4 points; Wang Zhelin: 2 points; Fang Shuo: 3 points; Wang Zirui: 2 points; Dong Hanlin: 2 points.

China national team did not fare well in 2Q, only managed to score 20 points but yielded 10 points to Chinese Hong Kong.

Not sure why Head Coach Li Nan did not play the hot-handed Sun Minghui in 2Q, but nevertheless the players that stood in for Sun Minghui: Liu Zhixian and Xiralijan Muhtar also were hot, sharing 4 3-pointers amongst them.

Ding Yan Yuhang
did not score in 2Q, but picked up couple of fouls and turnovers.

The scorers in 2Q were: Xiralijan Muhtar: 8 points; Liu Zhixian: 6 points; Wang Zhelin: 3 points; Fang Shuo: 2 points and Wang Zirui: 1 point.
