i'm 6 1 (with shoes) and 167pounds (last measured yesterday) and i can just tap the ring with a couple of fingers
i just rejoined gym last month after a 2 year absence and i'm doing legs training 2 times a week.

my routine is bascially this for legs 2x a week.
stepper 5 mins
squats 3 set 10-15 reps with about 60 kg
leg press machine 4 set 10-12 reps with 100-140 kg
leg extension 3 sets 10-15 reps with 40-65 kg
quater squat and calves raises 4 set 10-20 reps 50-90 kg
bikes 5 mins

takes about 40-50 mins
I'll change it up once i'm stronger, but this is more than enough workload for now.

Yes, what is the average Ameican male vertical jump, I wonder? Stats, anyone?

This is also very interesting:

The 4th handicap of Yao Ming was that he has short Achilles tendon and long toes. According to Yang Yi, 2 major things determine whether a person can run fast and jump high or not: long and curvy Achilles tendon and short toes.

Is this true? And if so, who and how did they determine this? And what do they mean by a "curvy" Achilles tendon? Could someone post some pics of "long, curvy" tendons vs "short, straight" ones? And "long" vs "short toes"?

I have a vertical of around 30 something inches. However, that really doesn't make a difference since I just play on the perimeter.

On second thought, it helps keep your defender from blocking your shot.

5'11, right now can grab the rim with both hands... just a few more inches...

My best time on the mile was just barely over 5 minutes, that was in high school though I'm probably slower now. Ran the 100 in 12 seconds, 200 in 25 seconds, and the 400 in 52. Again, all in high school, haven't run much since then.

The vertical definitely helps on the court, can pretty much take one hard dribble and shoot a clear shot over anyone reasonably sized.

LoL Geez! You all make me feel short! I'm currently a senior in highschool right now... and I'm 5ft8in. I did Varsity Track last year. So I'm a little bit faster than some of you guys on the 100m (11.6-11.8sec). My other times aren't very good. My 200m is about 24.5-25seconds and my 400 is about 57seconds (yes I guess in the long run I guess it's better to be a bit taller- long legs= less steps to cover the same amount of distance... LoL) My mile is like.. (hahaa) 6.00ish- which is quite sad compared to the 5minutes here that people have... Yah... I can tap the net about halfway between the bottum and the rim. I still find it crazy how Allen Iverson can be like 6ft1in and still dunk, it's insane. Anyways yeah... I'll probably never dunk on a basket in my entire life... just too short

Since everyone starts to talk about his own vertical instead, i'm moving this thread to the Yao and Me forum !!
