Who is the NBA's Most Valuable Player?
Chris Sheridan
Associated Press

"...
Rookie of the Year: Yao Ming, Houston Rockets. Not an easy choice, with Caron Butler of the Miami Heat and Amare Stoudemire of Phoenix having legitimate credentials. There are plenty of arguments to be made against Yao, who didn't produce on a night-in, night-out basis the way Butler did and seemed to play his best only in games which were nationally televised. He gets the nod because he had more to do with keeping the Rockets in playoff contention than Stoudemire did for the Suns.

MVP? Can't deny Duncan
BY SAM SMITH
Chicago Tribune

"...
Rookie of the Year: Yao Ming, Amare Stoudemire, Caron Butler. A show of hands: Who said Yao had a chance to be a productive player this season? Not I. Stoudemire has been magnificent in helping the Suns get to the playoffs. But no one has endured the attention and pressure Yao has. He has handled it with grace and professionalism.

After watching ESPN's PTI with Michael Wilbon(washington post) and guest David Dupree(USA Today) talked about ROY briefly. Wilbon, an avid Yao supporter from the start, have Amare being his ROY while Dupree have Caron as his choice. That's two votes less for Yao and god knows how many sportwriters just dying to get off the Yao Ming wagon. Sigh........

Don't worry so much. Log onto ESPN.com, and click on the most recent chat line with Marc Stein. He said he ended up voting for Yao, even though he intended to vote for Amare. He said, that in the end, he just couldn't vote against Yao, considering all that he had accomplished.

Facing Mavs, 6th place may suit Lakers
By Vittorio Tafur, STAFF WRITER

"...
Rookie of the Year: Houston's Yao Ming gets our vote, and unlike most people, we don't think this one is even close. Phoenix forward Amare Stoudemire surprised everyone and has a nasty edge that we like, but he pretty much catches passes from great guards and dunks. Yao came from China, faced unbelievable pressure and adjustments and took every center's best shot and stayed upright. He changed teams' scouting reports his first day in the league.
