People have already complained that China used military troops to lower/raise the Olympic flags.

I just saw a program on ABC, a major tv station here in Sydney. They were saying somefing along the lines of "yeah yeah, the infrastructure was good, the venue was good, but hey, it still sucked. Because the fans were kept too far from the athletes. and they quoted some marathon runner saying that during the marathon race all the fans were sealed off with fences and security guards kept them from getting close to the track."
Well don't they do that with every event of that sort in every country? From what I've seen of the long distance track events in this olympics, the fans were just behind the fence. No different to any other events I've seen.
Just imagaine what the media would say if the fans were actually allowed to get close to the athletes. "the security here is horrible""the athletes lives were endangered by the commies""the dirty chinese were using secret agents acting as fans to distract foreign runners"
It seems as if all western media are scared, too scared to compliment the chinese. on every channel here that i've seen in sydney. Every time they say something positive about the beijing olympics, it will be quickly followed by "But, whine whine whine..."It seems as if they are scared that they will be labeled commies themselves if they don't attack the beijing olympics.
These few years, i've begun to realise that no media in the world is objective. The media here in the west is just propaganda machines as much as their Chinese counterparts. At least everyone knows the Chinese state run media are just propaganda, while the western ones pretend to be "free". Such hypocracy

Yet they have no problem at baseball games when the american flag is presented by uniformed marines.

Why would they, Marines are champions of justice. Just last week, one Marine saved me from a pack of Lava Monsters with his saber.

Edit: for those that doesn't get it. Reference

This is what happens when you don't have security measures.

This guy was on his way to getting GOLD.. But was attacked by some Italian religious freak.

Imagine if this were to happened in China, by some mentally ill free Tibet douche bag.... And the US lost their chance of getting Gold because of it..

The US would be crying and demanding that the guy get Gold instead of Bronze..

The national flag should be handled by servicemen, but I think the complaint was with the IOC/Olympics flag being handled by Chinese servicement, and not civilians.

exactly, I see no issue with this. If this was in the us, the same marines would be lowering the olympic flag as well. In torino, those were italian military men handling the olympic flag
