It is more realistic that Guangzhou, Shengzhen and Hong Kong jointly organize an Olympics.

Shenyang would be a little reaching.

The final contestants are Chicago, Madrid, Tokyo, and Rio.

My opinion:

Chicago: No, the U.S has hosted so many Olympics already, I think around 10. Give another country a shot.

Tokyo: No, they have hosted the games 5 times. Twice already in Tokyo.

Madrid: No, the last time was 1992 Barcelona, its a only about a 20 year difference, too soon for the same country. Plus, all the racist will be doing monkey chants against black players, and making ch1nky eyes against Asians. It would be pretty ugly for the game.

Rio: Yes! No South American country has ever hosted an Olympics game before. Brazil is getting richer, and their economy is on the rise. They have a rich culture with a lot of diversity. So it would be a great place to host a first Olympics in S.A.

What do you think?

Chicago will get the games. Don't underestimate the American corporate dollar when it comes to the Olympics. Afterall they stole the centenary games from Athens in 1996.

Rio would be a logical choice. However Brazil is already the host of the 2014 FIFA world cup. That may count against them in that people may not want to see 2 major sporting event held in the same nation so close to each other.

While the next best Chinese city to host the game is Shanghai. It's the other Chinese city that has global appeal.

Why Shanghai when Beijing just spent billions.. If China were to host again, just do it in Beijing..

I say give it to Chicago.. I would love to see how the Americans can top Beijing opening ceremony.

Brazil has enough soccer stadiums to accommodate any FIFA cup events. A Olympics game will be epic, especially since its the first ever for South America.

I dont think Shanghai will ever get an Olympics. They might host Global Finanace meetings in Shanghai, but a Olympics will require billions. There's not enough real estate in Shanghai already, where will they build it? If they build a national stadium just for the Olympics, it will be like Montreal, Atlanta and Athens, wasted space and money, it wont be utilized afterwards. At least in Beijing, the Birds Nest and the Water Cube can be used for international events.

If Athens, London, Tokyo can be hosts for multiple times, why cant Beijing?

because of the behind-the-scence heavy-handed maneuvering surrounding the 1996 Centennial game, the US will not get the nod in the immediate future.

and should the US get the nod, it would NOT be hosted by densely populated metropolis built in the 1700/1800's (before there was such a thing as urban planning)---NYC, Chicago, Phila, DC, etc.
An international city, built on some semblance of modern urban planning considerations, that is more spread out, would be the ideal hosting site
for the Summer Olympic. It would be a real bonus if such a city already
has the sporting facilities available, and with additional space
available for new constructions, if needed. Los Angeles is such a city.

the FIFA world cup ain't the Olympics.

that should not be the sole consideration. IMHO, logistics considerations should trump all other considerations. for that reason Shanghai---like NYC, Chicago, Phila, DC---should never be selected to host the Olympics

IIRC, Canada had selected Montreal to host the 1976 game because of the city's international appeals, without any considerations for logistics and space. it turned out to be a logistic nightmare, an embarrassment (on a global stage) to Canada. the constructions were never completed. some 32 years later, Canadians are still paying off the interest on the debts incurred for that fiasco.

U.S. will prevent any south American country from hosting Olympics.

If Spain could host it again, South African deserves it more.

If Obama is elected president of U.S., Chicago has a better shot.

Japan was an Asian country in 1964. In between then and now, a western country. If Tokyo get a chance, that means Japan is an Asian country again.

But in any case, 2016 is just another game, especially after the 2012 London game.
