| I wouldn't read too deep into that one. My hunch is that it had something to do with Tmac having a possibility of coming back to play this season while Yao was known to be out for the whole year. |

| yao is left off the all-star roster bc that's the only season fans will not be able to vote for him and make a mockery of the game. |

Alonzo mourning was voted to start the all star game a few years ago, and he at the time had already retired with a kidney problem. A retired black player gets to stay on the ballot with a career threatning kidney problem , while an asian player with a non career threatning bone fracture gets removed from the ballot.
Magic johnson was retired with h.i.v. in 1992 and he remained on the all star ballet. He was voted to start the all star game that year and was the MVP of the game. Again, retired black players get to remain on the ballot , while an injured asian player gets removed. |

Well to answer your question:
- The year Alonzo Mourning was last voted to All Stars was in 2002. His complications in kidney was not diagnosed until 2003, and he had a successful kidney transplant in 2004, and he returned to play into the rotation of Miami Heats in the 2004/05. He did not officially retire until January of 2009.
- As for Magic Johnson, he did got selected to the All Stars in the 1991/92 season after he publicly revealed in November 1991 that he had tested positive for HIV. But hey, SO WHAT??? HIV is not contagious through physical contest/contact, and he was not having sexual intercourse on the court.
Magic Johnson even represented USA and was in the roster of Dream Team I in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.
- Tracy McGrady got voted in with high numbers of ballots, cos he had returned and at least played a number of games. And most of his votes I supposed were sympathy votes from China or from delusional fans like nig1 who wet-dreamed Tracy McGrady is still the All Star player that he used to be.
- As for Big Yao, it is well known prior to the start of the season that he could not return throughout this season. But if NBA still leaves him on the All Stars voting, due to his popularity, he would surely make the All Stars once again. NBA does not want that happen and put themselves into an embarrassing situation that the voted-in starting centre could not play.
So there was ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to play the racism card !!! |

mourning was diagnosed with kidney problems in 2001 and didn't play in the 2002 season, but was voted to start the 2002 all star game. Grant hill has also been voted to start many all star games where he couldn't play in because of injury. And what about Yi JianLian, why is he not on the ballot he is averaging 16 points 8 rebounds a game, and was in 3rd place in all star voting among forwards in the eastern conference last year. 16 points 8 rebounds a game is better than the 0 points 0 rebounds a game that Tmac is averaging. |

Well last year Yi Jianlian was NOT EVEN included into the All Stars voting. His votes came from all over China.
NO ONE is stopping you to try to vote for Yi Jianlian MULTIPLE TIMES this year just like what his Chinese fans did last year. |

Yi was not on the ballot in his rookie year but was on the ballot last year. Lebron got 2.9 million votes Garnett got 2.1 million votes and Yi got 1.9 million votes. You can't get 1.9 million votes if you're not on the ballot. A player who gets nearly 2 million all star votes the previous year should automatically be on the ballot the next year.

yao starting the all-star game ahead of shaq. Basically yao will be an all-star starter even when he turns into dekembe. At least this yr, someone else who deserves it can be on the roster. |
