Just like what happened in the Shenzhen stop, China U18 team once again lost to the Oak Hill Academy outfit in Putian of Fujian last night. They lost a closely contested game 93 ~ 88.

Oak Hill Academy started with a 9 ~ 0 run but China responded and ended 1Q leading 29 ~ 25.

China continued to lead in early 2Q, but there were defensive breakdowns that led Oak Hill Academy to come from behind to lead 52 ~ 47 by half time.

Oak Hill Academy got into a 9 ~ 2 run and led 61 ~ 49 in early 3Q. But led by Wangh Zhelin, China roared back into the game, and was 5 points behind (76 ~ 71) by end of 3Q.

But the Oak Hill Academy's lads played very patient, with a maturity well beyond their age, and whenever the China U18 lads were reducing the arrears to a 3-point or 1-point game, they immediately responded; they eventually won 93 ~ 88.

Gao Shang continued to rest and did not play. Wang Zhelin just shouldered the team on his own and scored 30 points and 9 rebounds. Han Delong had 15 points and 5 rebounds; Li Jinglong had 13 points and 3 assists. Dai Huaibo had 12 points; Yang Jinmeng had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

Oak Hill Academy's star Jordan Adams scored 31 points and 6 rebounds, while Tyler Lewis had 18 points and 7 rebounds.

The 4-Nations International Invitational had moved to its 3rd stop at Ganzhou of Jiangxi.

China U18 was thrashed by Australia 81 ~ 60 tonight.

For the 4th consecutive game, Gao Shang did not play as he had yet to recover from his illness.

And for Wang Zhelin, this was a night that he wanted to forget. It was ironic that he received the great news that he was included into the training squad of the national team for the 2012 London Olympics but then played his worst game so far in this tournament. He bricked tons of his shots, and only got 7 points (3/12 FG%), 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Li Jinglong, the son of Li Chunjiang, the head coach of Guangdong Dongguan Bank Hongyuan Tigers, was the top scorer for China U18 with 18 points; Yang Jinmeng had 12 points, 2 rebounds and 3 steals.

China U18 was defeated 72 ~ 86 by Lithuania in Day 2 of the Ganzhou (of Jiangxi) stop of the International Youth Invitational tournament last night.

This was their first defeat to the Lithuanian outfit in the past 3 stops.

The China U18 lads had a great start; with Wang Zhelin rebouncing from his poor form and shooting, China carved out a 8 point lead (25 ~ 17) by end of 1Q.

But starting from 2Q, the Lithuanians stepped up their defense, double-teamed Wang Zhelin, and kept China's exterior offense at bay. They managed to erase the deficits, and led 41 ~ 40 by half time.

Lithuania never looked back from there, and took a 61 ~ 56 lead into 4Q.

China sent back Gao Shang in 4Q, but the China U18 lads just lost the momentum, made numerous turnovers (China U18 had 20 turnovers for this game, compared to 14 from Lithuania), bricked tons of shots (the 3-pointer% for China U18 in this game was a poor 2/18 3-pointer% ), and eventually lost the game to Lithuania.

5 Lithuanian players were in double digits scoring, and only 2 Chinese players scored double digits; Wang Zhelin scored 21 points and 9 rebounds; Dai Huaibo had 13 points and 8 rebounds; Li Jinglong had 9 points.

So China U18 team suffered their first defeat in this international youth invitational to a USA outfit, comprised of players from Oak Hill Academy, a basketball powerhouse of US High School League.

They were beaten 115 to 106 last night, and finished 2nd in this Shenzhen stop of the international invitational (USA, China and Australia both finished 2W 1L; USA finished #1, China #2, Australia #3 and Lithuania #4).

Both Gao Shang and Wang Zhelin continued to do well; they both scored double-doubles. Gao Shang scored 36 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists, while Wang Zhelin scored 25 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.

But the Oak Hill Academy proved too strong for the China U18 team, as they boasted 3 top NCAA/NBA prospects in Tyler Lewis (point guard), D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera (shooting guard) and Jordan Adams (small forward).

The US team led 32 ~ 24 in 1Q, further stretched the lead to 64 ~ 51 by half time, and then 94 ~ 75 by end of 3Q. Jordan Adams scored 38 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals in 30 minutes of action, while D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera had 36 points and 8 assists in 28 minutes of action.

The tournament will now move on to Putian of Fujian.

not being selected to any of the national teams must have an impact on Gao Shang. he has been a totally different player after coming back from his illness
