The annual Forbe's China Top 100 Celebrities ranking was released yesterday.
Despite his retirement, Yao Ming was still ranked #8, but for the first time in 8 years, he lost the #1 top earnings for athletes to Li Na, the tennis player who won the French Open in 2011; Li Na was placed #5 with an earnings of 115.5 Million Renminbi (approximately US$ 18.3 Million). Li Na and Yao Ming were the only 2 athletes in the Top 10.
Yao Ming's earnings in the past year was 96.9 Million Renminbi (approximately US$ 15M), which dropped almost 60% when compared to his 2010 earnings of 228.8 Million Renminbi (aaproximately US$ 36M).
He is still ranked #1 in exposure rate in newspaper, #40 in Internet, and #63 in TV + Magazine.
The top ten of the 2012 Forbes Chinese Top 100 Celebrities List are:

3. Fan Bingbing
4. Faye Wong
5. Li Na
6. Zhao Benshan
7. Jolin Tsai
8. Yao Ming
