Chen is much shorter at 184cm (6'1') while Ricky Rubio is 193 (6'4') and still growing. They are about same is physical strength (Rubio is still 17 and will get much stronger eventually). Chen is more athletic and quicker, but Rubio has something called BBALL IQ, something Chen severely lacks. |

Biggest reason is the lack of playing time for Chen. Rubio plays starting pg for his club team, he is allowed to play through his mistakes and learn from it. Chen shares the pg role with 2 other pgs on his team. He is yanked from the game once he makes a mistake, the coaches never allows him to play through it.
If you are not going to play him why even have him on the team? He makes 1 mistake and he is getting cursed at, and relegated to the bench for the next game.
When Rubio make a turnover or get a bad foul, you never see his team mates or coaches curse him or yell at him in front of everyone. They treat him like an adult, respects him. On the CNT, only veterans are allow to make mistakes, if you are a younging like Ding Jing Hui, Chen Jinghua, Wang Lei, be prepared to be blamed for everything your idi0tic team mate does. |

After watching that game, I don't understand why you even asked this question...
Rubio is taller, has longer arms, better ball handler, and is a very good passing guard already at this age. In order for Chen to make a decent pass, he has to penetrate with his scoring ability as a threat, Rubio plays within the system and doesn't even need to take a shot to be effective.
It also doesn't help, when his teammates on the CNT don't move when he has the ball... |

Too bad those club owners care 100x more about keeping Chen to make money and contribute only a small amount rather than focusing on his devepment as a person and a player. They wouldn't release him to another team so his stuck with his current team sharing the pg position with Liu Xiaoyu another promising pg. It sucks they are stuck on the same team which hinders their growth and development. |

| Chen has a lot of potential, too bad his talent is being wasted. Although he does make a lot of mistakes, he doesn't get much time to improve. I dont think he'll ever end up in the NBA. |

It's a problem with most Chinese players... They don't have the same mentality..
Same with American basketball. Compare a "street" ball player to a white dude raised in a rich family and coached all year round...
White dude won't have the same mentality and BB iq as the street player.. Which explains why they keep losing to the street ballers every time they come by the park to practice.. |

| Rubio understands the game, has great maturity and court awareness. Chen has none of that. Chen Jianhua is more athletic and more dynamic but that doesn't get you far if you don't know what's going on on the court. |

Ricky Rubio is without doubt a great talent. A great ball handler, he has excellent vision and passing skills. His bball IQ is also incredibly high for someone so young. His defense isn't too bad either. However having had the chance to see him up close and during the warms here are a few of the things that I noticed.
He isn't particularly hard working. During the pre-game warms, while all his teammates are on the floor working on their game, Ricky would take a few shots, missing most of them and then just sits on the bench and watch. He seems to have a real arrogrant attitude as well. At times he even seems to act like his above his team and sulks when he gets bench for making a mistake. His release on his shot is too low. It's ok now but he won't get that off at higher level.
These are some of the negatives but the positives are just so huge. I am really impressed by how compose he is and how he is able to direct an offense. |
